Elgin Animal Shelter Hosts Unique Donation Event For Winter

The winter months are the hardest months for everyone, especially animal shelters. Bad weather makes it difficult for adoptors to come and check out the animals that need homes, the holidays make it difficult for people to afford to donate, etc.

But, the Elgin Animal Shelter is looking to combat that winter month struggle they may have been facing with a giveaway. Not just any giveaway, either. They want to give away a 65 inch smart TV in a drawing. For more chances to win, all you have to do is donate more items at the local Sonic in Elgin.

Here's what you need to know in order to win.

How do I participate in the donation drive to win Elgin Animal Shelter's smart TV?

The Elgin Animal Shelter partnered with the Elgin Sonic restaurant to make things easier for those who want to donate items towards the donation drive between February 9 and February 22, 2026.

All you have to do is pull up to a stall at the Sonic, push the red button, and ask for a manager. They'll come out with tickets for you to fill out, one ticket for every item that you donate.

The Animal Shelter will draw for the winner, who also wins a $100 SONIC gift card, on February 23, 2026. They will go live on Facebook so that everyone can see who wins the drawing.

What items can I donate to enter in the giveaway?

The Animal Shelter has a list of things they'd prefer to receive for donations, including:

Diamond dog or cat food (chicken or lamb)
Bath towels
Dog harnesses
Paper towels
Dog beds (no soft ones)
Training treats
KONG toys/puzzles
Dog bandanas
Purina Tidy Cats Clumping cat litter

Many of these items do not have to be brand new if you want to donate them, such as dog harnesses and bath towels. However, don't donate things that are practically falling apart, rather strive for gently used items.

Things like training treats, paper towels and food for the animals do need to be new so that nothing is contaminated or damaged.

The giveaway is open to anyone, not just those who live in Elgin. So help out a local shelter and enter to win some prizes that honestly, you don't get a chance to win often.
