The Food and Drug Administration has become aware of at least one hand sanitizer maker that's shipping toxic products into our country. Eskbiochem is the company producing these sanitizers under several different brand names. The problem with these products is a substance used to manufacture them, methanol. While technically an alcohol itself, it's the alcohol substitute substance used to kill germs, but there's a chance it could kill the user too.

When absorbed through the skin or consumed, methanol can cause a myriad of issues for people. Symptoms include nausea and vomiting, headache, blurred vision and permanent blindness, seizures, coma, catastrophic damage to the nervous system, metabolic acidosis (absorbed acid in your bloodstream) and even death.

Eskbiochem is a producer of products in Mexico, and as the pandemic gained ground in the US, we imported as much of these products as possible to help fight transmission of coronavirus. These are the brands the FDA has flagged:

  • All-Clean Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-002-01)
  • Esk Biochem Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-007-01)
  • CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 75% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-008-04)
  • Lavar 70 Gel Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-006-01)
  • The Good Gel Antibacterial Gel Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-010-10)
  • CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 80% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-005-03)
  • CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 75% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-009-01)
  • CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 80% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-003-01)
  • Saniderm Advanced Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-001-01)

Do a quick recon of your hand sanitizer supplies and dispose of any of those brands. Also, this is probably a good time to read the labels of any other products you may have in the home. Methanol is good for cleaning stuff, but very bad for your health according to the FDA. Take their advice, I'm sure there's no political shenanigans behind their warning.
