One of rock music's most ambitious and politically inclined figures squares off against an arena-filling crowdpleaser on the latest 100 percent fan-decided Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame ballot. Will it be Peter Gabriel or Foreigner?

Over a 10-year period between 1977-87, Foreigner notched an amazing nine Top 10 singles -- covering everything from crunchy rock ('Feels Like the First Time,' 'Hot Blooded' and 'Urgent') to lighter-raising power ballads ('Waiting for a Girl Like You,' 'I Want to Know What Love Is' and 'I Don't Want to Live Without You'). They've sold some 50 million albums along the way, with 1981's '4' topping the U.S. charts and 1984's 'Agent Provocateur' hitting No. 1 in the UK.

The quirkier Gabriel, meanwhile, didn't have the same kind of sustained presence on the charts, beginning his solo career after Genesis with four consecutive self-titled projects. But by 1986, he was ready to reel off three consecutive Top 10 Billboard albums -- highlighted by 'So,' which sold some five-million copies alone. 'Sledgehammer' topped the U.S. singles charts in '86, while 'Games Without Frontiers,' 'Don't Give Up' and 'Steam' were all Top 10 UK hits over the years.
