As we've rolled into October, tons of surveys have gone out to the masses to see which Halloween costumes would be most popular during the All Hallows celebrations across the country, and we couldn't be more disappointed.

Plain and simple, they're lame this year.

Every year the Halloween thing goes just about the same. By the time Halloween is here, it's usually too late to snag a solid costume. Not so shockingly, the popular picks often sell out long before the spooky season begins... but if the list of most popular costumes as decided by popular vote is true, you'll have zero trouble finding something awesome to wear.

If you go back in time, you can usually guess which costumes were the standouts of years prior. 2021 was all about the red jumpsuits of Squid Game. 2020 was a wash in pandemic status and Tiger King. 2019 belonged to baby Yoda, 2018 was Marvels on the success of Avengers and Black Panther... While you would expect 2022 to follow in kind, it doesn't look that way at all.

The most popular costumes for 2022 consist of Wonder Woman 1984 (old), Elf (old), the Dark Knight (old), Captain Marvel (old), Rey from Star Wars (old), Harley Quinn (overdone), Dorothy from Wizard of Oz (classic, but overdone)... The only acceptable "most popular" choice on the entire list is the inflatable t-rex costume. It never goes out of style because you rarely see more than one at any given party.

The last calendar year has seen a few huge pop culture hits, and with the shows that will be airing up through Halloween, it's easy to see which costumes will make heads turn. Get an early start.

2022's Most Popular Halloween Costumes

It's not hard to guess which Halloween costumes will be the most likely to win you contest gold, you just have to look at the last year of entertainment out of Hollywood. With massive hits like Stranger Things, Top Gun, and whatever Jurassic Park their on now, 2022's Halloween costume offerings are a breeze.
