Cameron University Opens Lawton’s First Dedicated Pickleball Court
Official pickleball courts have finally come to Lawton. The sport has rapidly grown in popularity, with courts popping up across Oklahoma. Now Lawton finally has its own official pickleball court on the campus of Cameron University.
Last week, Cameron University unveiled its new pickleball court on the north side of the Aggie Rec Center on the south side of campus. The court is big enough for one game at a time.
Cameron University's pickleball court is free and open to the public.
Cameron University's Senior Director of Public Affairs, Keith Mitchell, confirmed that the university's pickleball court is free and open to the public. The Aggie Rec Center does have pickleball items, like racquets and balls, for students to check out. However, non-students should bring their own pickleball items to play with on the court.
The pickleball court will open during daylight hours. Cameron University will soon offer pickleball classes as a college recreation course, and the court will be closed during these classes.

In 2024, the City of Lawton began extensive renovations of city parks, including updating tennis courts with pickleball court lines. Lawton's parks that feature tennis courts include Greer Park, 35th Division Park and Gray Warr Park.
The Lawton Family YMCA also offers pickleball for members on its basketball courts. Non-members can also get a pass just to play pickleball. The Lawton Family YMCA first opened its renovated courts featuring pickleball at the end of last year.
Even though Lawton residents can play pickleball at any of the tennis courts in Lawton or at the YMCA, the new pickleball court at Cameron University is the first and only exclusive pickleball court in Lawton.
