Athena Nielipinski started the nonprofit in 2023 after rescuing a homeless stray named "Fishy." March 10 is actually Fishy's "gotcha" day, and after Nielipinski rescued and started rehabilitate Fishy, she realized there was a need for a network of foster families for homeless dogs in Comanche County.
There are homeless dogs just about everywhere across Comanche County, and Nielipinski said that often times, people don't know what to do when they come across a homeless dog and want to help it. And the goal of Fishy's Friends Rescue is to give people and the dogs a resource by offering foster homes for homeless dogs and by providing resources on their website for how to rehome a dog, etc.
