What To Know: Current Salmonella Outbreak Affects 22 States, Including Texas
Earlier this month, a recall was issued over certain meats in Texas, and several other states, due to possible Salmonella contamination. As of January 18, the CDC reported that this current Salmonella outbreak has affected 22 states. According to their data, 47 people have been infected and there have been 10 people that have had to be hospitalized. Meat Recalled In Texas Due To Possible Salmonella Contamination
The foods that could be contaminated are Busseto brand Charcuterie Sampler which is sold at Sam's Club. The sampler contains:
- prosciutto
- sweet soppressata
- dry coppa
It comes in a twin pack. If you have purchased this recently, it's a good idea to throw it out.
The other is Fratelli Beretta brand Antipasto Gran Beretta. It contains:
- dry salami coated in black pepper
- Italian dry salami
- dry coppa
- prosciutto
It comes in a twin pack and is sold at Costco.
The Investigation Into The Salmonella Outbreak Continues
According to the CDC website, the investigation into the outbreak and contamination continues. While the investigation is still ongoing, it is recommended that you do not purchase or consume the two items listed in the recall. Also, you should wash any surfaces or containers that have come into contact with the product, and contact your doctor if you start exhibiting symptoms associated with Salmonella.
Salmonella can be especially dangerous for children 5 and under, adults 65 and older, and individuals with a weakened immune system.
