Did you know that in Texas there are only a handful of times each year when fireworks can be legally sold?

You may or may not have noticed, but there has been some action at fireworks stands lately. With Independence Day coming up, we are just days away from the opening of fireworks stands across the State of Texas. And that means business will be booming soon for those who operate those stands.

When Can Fireworks Stands Start Selling for the 4th of July Holiday?

If you are wanting to buy fireworks, you won't have long to wait much longer. Beginning Monday, June 24 until Midnight on July 4th fireworks stands across the Lone Star State will be allowed to sell fireworks. That's according to the Texas Comptroller's Office.

While fireworks are legal in Texas, that doesn't mean they are legal to have and use everywhere. For example, most Texas cities, including Lubbock, do not allow the use of fireworks within city limits. There are also some counties that may have burn and fireworks bans in place due to dry weather and the desire to prevent a wildfire.

In Lubbock, it is illegal to possess or use fireworks in the city. Those who violate the ordinance can be fined up to $1000 per violation. Lubbock Police last year issued 24 citations last year between June 26 and July 9th.

Fines can vary from city to city. For example, fireworks violations in Amarillo and Wichita Falls can come with a fine up to $2,000. In Abilene it's $500. In Dallas, you can also receive a fine up to $2,000.

Fireworks stands will be open again later this year from December 20 to midnight on January 1 for New Year's Eve Celebrations. But the big sales will start happening soon as we get ready to celebrate Independence Day.
