Janet Jackson Breaks Down in the Middle of Houston Concert

Two shows into Janet Jackson's State of the World tour and the singer has already proven she remains completely emotionally connected to her music.

Jackson, who delivered a rousing set to a crowd in Houston on Saturday (September 9), found herself particularly moved during a performance of 1997 track "What About." The track's lyrics, which outline an abusive relationship, seemed to make a particular impression as Jackson goes through divorce proceedings with estranged husband Wissam Al Mana.

"What about the times you yelled at me? / What about the times I cried? You wouldn't even hold me," she sang. "What about those things?/ What about that, what about that? /What about the times you hit my face? /What about the times you kept on when I said, 'No more please' / What about those things?"

"This is me," Jackson added after the song's end, motioning to her dancers, who had mimicked abusive behavior through their movements.

Still, Houston proved to be a host to good vibes for Jackson, too — she arrived early to the city to support those who had been affected by Hurricane Harvey. "I’m here to tell you that we are doing the show in Houston, but we’re gonna roll in early because we want to visit some of the shelters. We also want to do something special for the victims,” she said in a video uploaded to Twitter. Jackson also pledged to donate proceeds from the show to local relief funds.
