VS Code Red Among Several Famous Horses At World Show in Oklahoma City
This month, Oklahoma is hosting one of the largest shows the equine industry and, believe it or not, it's completely free to watch. And one of the internet's most loved equestrians happens to have her iconic stud, VS Code Red, here for the occasion.
Who Is Katie Van Slyke?
Katie Van Slyke has become one of the most well known quarter horse breeders thanks to her popularity on TikTok and Facebook. She's best known for showing off the mares and foals she breeds each year and capturing the reality of the horse breeding world.
The stud that she purchased recently, VS Code Red, who happens to be the sire for most of her 2025 crop, is appearing this year at the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) World Championship.
What Is The AQHA World Championship?
The World show is happening from now until Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024 at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds. Visitors are able to watch these shows without any entry fees and some barns will allow you to meet their horses, trainers and owners. Granted, some areas are closed off - after all, these are horses worth the same as some folks' six figure homes.
@lip_chipllc It’s the 50th AQHA World Championship Show in Oklahoma City! And when AQHA says it’s time to party like it’s 1974, Lip Chip is so ready to bring our microchipping technology with us! • • • #horse #horseshow #horsesofinstagram #weekend #oklahoma #okc #aqha #americanquarterhorse #quarterhorse #arena #lipchip #equestrian #equine ♬ original sound - Lip_ChipLLC
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the world show, which has been held in Oklahoma since 1976. The very first world show in 1974 was held in Kentucky, but then moved to the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds and has been hosted there ever since.
What Else Is There Besides Expensive Horses?
These shows are happening in the arenas at the fairgrounds, but there is more happening at the Sales Pavilion. There are also over 100 vendors vendors at the Nutrena Trade Show from across the United States, selling home décor, jewelry, tack, western attire, trailers and more.
Remember the show is completely free and open to everyone to enjoy. Always check with the barn before attempting to greet any of the animals and as a general rule of thumb, don't feed the animals.
Fall is still here in Oklahoma and if this show makes you want to do some riding, here are the best places you can catch the fall foliage while on horseback in Oklahoma.
