Lady Gaga Obliterates Dr. Luke’s Lawyer During Kesha Deposition
The document, which previously featured a blacked out transcript from Sept. 12, 2017, now shows a heated exchange between the "Shallow" singer and Dr. Luke's lawyer. Gaga, 32, defended Kesha in court while fielding questions from the embattled producer's legal team. During the hearing, Gaga detailed her first meeting with Kesha, which took place at Dr. Luke's home.
"What I recall was her immense sadness and depression and fear," she said during the hearing. "She was visibly very different than when I had seen her before, and – but I can't say specifically what we spoke about. I just recall it was emotional and I wanted to be there for her."
Dr. Luke's lawyer asked Gaga if she felt Dr. Luke's reputation was "bruised" by the allegations against him. The award-winning recording artist didn't take kindly to the question.
"Reputation, if you are asking about his reputation in the world, I don't feel at liberty to speak for the entire world," she said. "So if you are asking what my view is of his reputation, I made my view of him and his reputation when I saw her in that back room. That was an image that – of something that happened to me, and I felt and knew in my heart that she was telling the truth and I believe her."
Gaga was also asked to confirm that she has "no personal knowledge or information" about Dr. Luke and Kesha's alleged physical relationship, according to a report from Pitchfork. Speaking with certainty, the singer said she believed Kesha.
"Yes, I do have knowledge," she said. "She told me that he assaulted her."
Asked to provide further proof, Gaga said, "Well, you know – when men assault women, they don't invite people over to watch. And when this happens in this industry, it is kept extremely secret, and it is compounded by contracts and manipulative power scenarios that actually include this very situation that we are all in right now."
Dr. Luke's lawyer at one point asked Gaga if she believed there has "never been a false accusation of rape." She maintained her support of the "Rainbow" singer, and all women – herself included – who have been victims of sexual assault.
"You – how about all the women that are accused of being liars and how she was slut shamed in front of the world, how about that?" she said before being pressed again for "any factual knowledge" about what transpired between Dr. Luke and Kesha, 31.
"Oh, I have factual knowledge of her depression. I have factual knowledge of her need for support and love. I have factual knowledge of the spiral that I watched that girl go down. I have factual knowledge of trauma. I am informed and intelligent about this issue. That girl has experienced serious trauma and she is in the middle of it right now. And you are all a party to it," she responded.
Dr. Luke's legal team then asked Gaga to confirm that she wasn't present when Dr. Luke allegedly assaulted Kesha.
"Why on earth would this girl tell the entire world this happened? Why on earth? Do you know what it's like for survivors? Do you know what it's like to tell people? Don't you roll your eyes at me. You should be ashamed of yourself," she fired back.
Gaga has been a major player in Kesha's legal battle against Dr. Luke. Both women testified after a text conversation between the A Star is Born actress and Kesha, which featured allegations that Dr. Luke raped Katy Perry, was revealed. Kesha and Gaga have both testified that they heard the allegations about Dr. Luke and Perry, 34, from Interscope CEO John Janick.
