Freedom At Fort Sill – Lawton’s Annual Freedom Festival Approaching
I recently learned that Montana was supposedly the most patriotic state in the U.S. I guess they made that assumption without visiting the Lawton/Fort Sill area during Independence Day weekend, during the Freedom Fest. The festival is one of the biggest events Lawton hosts and I know for certain they'd change their minds if they'd seen this celebration in full swing.
This year's 11th Annual Freedom Festival is being held on Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28 at Elmer Thomas Park. The event is always enormous and usually lights up the entire park. This year, spaces might look a little differently since construction is nearing an end to the new Aquatics Center, which should be open mid-July this year.
The festival will include ellaborate contests, unique games, an enormous amount of vendors, various food trucks and will wrap up with a spectacular fireworks show on both nights. This year, we will see another incredible drone show solely on Friday evening.
Closer look at the details for Lawton's annual festival for freedom.
Starting at 5 p.m. each night, families will be able to participate in various contests like the hot dog eating contest, soap box derby and gurney races. Throughout the evenings, they'll also have plenty of entertainment to enjoy, like live music performances and "Disney Princess" performances on Saturday night.

Although this year, we will miss the sounds of the 77th Army Band helping pay tribute to our nation's military, Lawtononians will still be able to enjoy music from Ashes and Arrows, based out of North Carolina and New Zealand.
The entire event is free to attend, families will only need money for entries to some of the contests, food from the food trucks or purchasing items from the 50+ vendors that will be there that weekend.
