It's hard to remember exactly when the stoplights were installed at 50th Street, across from the Chicken Express in Lawton, Oklahoma. But since they were installed, they've never been turned on or worked at all.

Now, there's a major change that is catching some drivers off guard. This is among just a few changes that drivers should be looking out for when driving through town.

Stop lights at 50th Street in Lawton, Oklahoma, are working - drivers beware.

A local Lawtonian shared recently that the stop lights on 50th street have been turned on and will be working normally. Since everyone has been so used to just running straight through the area, law enforcement has been spotted making sure drivers are made aware of the change.

Update 11:18 a.m. Thursday, September 25: According to the Communications Manager for the city of Lawton, Caitlin Gatlin, these lights were originally installed by a contractor as offsight infrustructure and was not a city of Lawton project.

"This will go to the CPC for recommended acceptance today, and then to City Council on the 14th," she said. "If Council accepts the recommendation to approve them, they will become City infrastructure."

As of now, they are testing the lights and ensuring any issues have been resolved before they leave them on full time - meaning they could be off again if issues arise.

Recent changes in the Lawton area that drivers should be aware of.

While you're on Cache Road, you might also notice more traffic headed towards Golden Corral today around 3 p.m. That's because most people will be celebrating the grand opening of the new Texas Roadhouse location at 2512 NW Cache Rd.

The doors open at 3 p.m. and wrap up tonight at 10 p.m. Despite only having started moving in three days ago, they're all ready to rock and roll and serve them rolls tonight.
