Southwest Oklahoma’s Delicious Hidden Secret Not Found Anywhere Else
Unless you've been to a bar in southwest Oklahoma, or grew up in the area with some very lenient parents, you may have never heard of this drink. In fact, when the question was asked on Brainly in 2023, there was only 1 very vague and confused answer.
Well, thanks to Facebook user Emmanuel Alfaro, the southwest secret is out.
A commenter on the reel asked a bartender in Oklahoma City for a lime-washed beer, only to be met with a clueless look.
"I straight up asked the guy if he was even a bartender, but I was not trying to be funny. I was legit wondering how he didn’t know that. Then I found out that is a Lawton thing...," they said.
After watching the reel, maybe the OKC bartender may be able to pull one of these off.
Lime Washed Beer in Oklahoma
According to Emmanuel, he had not found a bar outside of southwest Oklahoma who knew what to do when he asked for a lime-washed beer.
"I've traveled all over and can't seem to find places that even know about this, so Oklahoma is spreading the love and teaching all of you how it's done."
-Emmanuel Alfaro
Courtesy of Emmanuel, there's a step-by-step "intstructional video" of a local bartender from one of southwest Oklahoma hotspots serving up the 'perfect lime-washed beer."
How Is Lime Washed Beer Made?
You really just need a few things to make this thirst quencher. Your favorite beer, a nice frozen mug, salt and a lime (duh) - not lime flavoring, you need an actual lime.
If you're taking the 'class' from Rosalie on the reel that Emmanuel shared, you'll started by warming up your mug and clearing up the fog on the frozen mug.
Next you'll want to add the part that makes this drink "lime washed." Take your lime and roll it and squeeze it, to get the juices flowing. Cut the lime and squeeze the juices into the bottom of of mug. Once you've got them all out, it's time to line the rim of the mug with "lime guts," or the lime pulp.
After you've got the rim lined, it's time to throw in your favorite beer. The video recommends Budlight, but Dos Equis is also recommended.
Last, but not least, you add your salt and you've got a lime washed beer.
Where Can I Get A Lime Washed Beer?
Literally any bar in southwest Oklahoma knows how to make a lime washed beer. A commentor suggested a few others:
"Try Chuckwagon BBQ in Duncan, Fred's in Altus or Rockin H Land & Cattle Co. In Temple they ALL make a great sloppy!"
Another commentor suggested the popular Ted's restaurant in Lawton. Some of the popular bars in southwest Oklahoma are:
Red Dirt Reloaded - Lawton, Oklahoma
Fubar Saloon - Lawton, Oklahoma

The Railhead Saloon - Lawton, Oklahoma
Backporch Drafthouse - Lawton, Oklahoma

If you hit up any of the bars listed above, they'll know what to do when you ask them for your lime-washed beer.
