Celebrities like John Mayer swiftly defended Justin Bieber after the Purpose singer announced he was canceling his remaining tour dates, but at least one fellow pop star is outwardly critical of Bieber's choice.

Louis Tomlinson, whose days as a One Direction member included many rigorous tours, told 92.3 AMP Radio in a new interview that any performer has an obligation to fulfill his promises to fans.

"Obviously, you have to be in a good position mentally, but I also think, to a certain degree, when you're signing up to something, you should see it through," Tomlinson said. "There's never enough that I can say or do for the fans. At the end of the day, it's the people who are buying the records that are putting you where you are."

TMZ reported in July that Bieber decided to cancel his remaining 14 Purpose tour dates because of new religious obligations.

Still, Bieber had previously insisted "“Everything’s fine. I’ve been on tour for two years," adding that he planned to spend downtime “just resting, getting some relaxation — we’re gonna ride some bikes.”
