Youth Shelter Seeking Unused Instruments For Foster Children in Oklahoma
Marie Detty Youth and Family Services provides a safe space for families and children in need. Whether it's facing domestic violence, misplacement or other difficulties, Marie Detty helps provide a clean and safe temporary home for many of Oklahoma's children.
While the intentions might be nice, it's no doubt a stressful transition for children, being pulled away from home and family without a timeline or answers for when things may be normal again.
In order to provide kids with a chance to let out some of those feelings they may be struggling with, the Marie Detty family is asking for help from Lawton's musical community.
Help fill the music room at Marie Detty with gently used instruments.
Representatives from Marie Detty Youth and Family Services put out an announcement recently via Facebook, asking for the Lawton/Fort Sill community to help create a music room for the children they're caring for at Parker Pointe.
All that they need are used, but working, instruments of any kind to fill the room in the facility. They are asking for those with instruments to drop them off at 811 SW 17th St, Lawton, OK 73505.
Music is not just therapeutic to listen to - it's just as healing to play.
Several studies have shown that playing instruments, writing songs and expressing ourselves through music can have incredible effects on our bodies and mind.

Healing isn't the only thing that comes from playing music. Here in Oklahoma, we've seen countless talented people share their music with the rest of the world. We quite literally could have the "next Taylor Swift" just waiting to learn to play the guitar.
