Horse-drawn Carriage Rides Are Coming To Medicine Park Weekends
The tiny town of Medicine Park, Oklahomia is often already described as a magical place to visit. This summer, they've partnered with a local company to include another even more romantic experience for those who come to check out the town. On select weekends, LCD Carriages will be offering horse-drawn carriage rides for the community.
Medicine Park is one of the places in Oklahoma that caters to the visitors, where pedestrians have the right-of-way on majority of the main roads. When it comes to parking, visitors are encouraged to remember that the horses have the reserved shaded spot, already marked with a "reserved" sign.
Carriage rides are only a few of the unique things that visitors can do in Medicine Park. You may not find a huge mall or a fancy five star restaurant, but you're almost certainly not going to find yourself bored in this place.
Weather permitting, carriage rides will be offered again June 14 & 15.
This Father's Day weekend, LCD Carriages is planning on making another appearance in Medicine Park, weather permitting. For those wanting to know when they'll be coming back to town, you'll want to follow their social media for updates, including when they may need to cancel if the weather goes south.
They intend on being in Medicine Park most Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting, according to Visit Medicine Park. Saturday rides should start around 2 p.m. or 3 p.m.and run until dark. Sunday rides will be offered right around the same time, until dark or until people stop riding.
The rides are $10 a person, three and under is free, and take visitors throughout the mainstreets of Medicine Park or can even be dropped off at a specific place in the Park.
First time carriage rides have ever been offered during Spring & Summer in Medicine Park.
LCD Carriages travels from Rush Springs, Oklahoma to various towns for events, occasions and special celebrations like proms, weddings and more. Usually, they offer rides at the Chickasha Festival of Lights. This year, they decided to give the rides a try in Medicine Park for the first time in the early summer.
The owner of LCD Carriages, Lee Dorman, has high hopes after bringing the horses, Pebbles and Piper, for the first time this past weekend, June 7.
"For just showing up, no signs, no advertisement, it was very fair. I'm very hopeful that it brings more business to Medicine Park and for my business as well. It's a very cool place over there and I was hoping to add to the place," he said.
The Dormans hope to continue offering the rides when the weather allows the horses to handle the heat, but it may only be a select few weekends of the summer. "When the weather goes to getting above 95 consistently, we may have to stop until it cools back down," Dorman said. "We'll play it by ear on that."
Medicine Park Tourism committee member Diane Chadwick boasted about the experience, saying that "this is something special" for the Medicine Park community.
"It's going to be really great in the fall and during the lights. We're not going to do it during the festivals, unfortunately, it's just too congested," she said.
"It's really beautiful," said Daine Chadwick. "I hope when people see that on a random weekend that it inspires them to use it for a really special occasion because they are super kind, gentle people."
