Meet Adoptable Cats At The Soft Opening Of Meow Mocha

Congratulations are in order for a new place that is about to open in Guthrie, Oklahoma. This isn't your typical coffee shop. Oklahoma will officially have two cat cafes in the state.

19-year-old Nicky Teague took her love for cats to an entirely new level by partnering with her mother and Media Manager, Madelyn Teague, renovating a historical spot in downtown Guthrie and opening her very own 'coffee and cuddles' spot. After months of construction work, they've finally been able to open their doors to the public. 

On Tuesday, May 20, the Teagues will be hosting their soft opening of their very own cat cafe in Guthrie. They've partnered with their local animal shelters to bring in adoptable kittens and cats to their lounge area. There, visitors can spend some much-needed quality time with the animals.

Meow & Mocha in Guthrie is currently the largest cat cafe in the state.

They've made lots of space for their cats with a 2,000 square foot cat lounge. Inside the cat lounge, they've brought in a theatre screen, community library and board games to play. Eventually, the plan is to install video games in the cafe soon for visitors to enjoy.

The Teague ladies renovated what used to be the historic sports museum themselves with the idea of peace and comfort in mind. According to their website, the quiet kind of atmosphere isn't just good for people, but for the cats, too.

"Studies show that this immersive experience leads to higher adoption rates, as people feel more confident in their decision after spending quality time with their future furry companion," they said.

Now, the rooms are filled with a modern, clean, cozy look perfect for photos and for relaxing. They also offer a variety of goods like boba, coffee, iced coffees, and caffeine free drink options for kids outside of the cat lounge, so there is a separate space for visitors who may not want a close up visit with the kitties.

Renovations are wrapping up and the final touch: the cats!

Nearly every cat and kitten at the cat lounge will be available for adoption. They will have two permanent residents for the lounge, but the rest of the cats will come from local shelters and rescues. Each cat will be "fully vetted, health tested and spayed/neutered," according to Madelyn.

If visitors decide they'd like to adopt any of the animals at Meow & Mocha, they will need to work with the individual shelter responsible for the animal to get adoptions sorted out.
