The role of young Han Solo in Disney's upcoming Star Wars spin-off centered on the infamous one-time space smuggler turned interstellar war hero is arguably one of the most sought-after roles for Hollywood's current heartthrob elite. Moreover, the impending casting has fans of the series up in arms over who should and shouldn't be considered for the role of the beloved character.

Over 2,000 actors have reportedly met with Disney and Lucasfilm for the role, and while that number hasn't been officially confirmed, one actor who has definitely met with the two studios about the role is Divergent star Miles Teller.

It's been rumored for months now that Teller, whose 2014 critically acclaimed film Whiplash landed two Academy Awards, was up for the role of young Solo in the Mouse House's forthcoming standalone flick, due out in the spring of 2018. On Thursday March 17, the actor confirmed the rumors while talking on the happysadconfused podcast, revealing that he did audition indeed for the role.

In addition to confirming his audition, Teller also dropped somewhat of a bomb with regards to his familiarity with the iconic sci-fi adventure franchise: prior to landing the audition, he hadn't actually seen any of the original Star Wars films. Cue the fan outrage.

Speaking with host Josh Horowitz, the actor revealed, "I had never even seen any of the original Star Wars movies until maybe a month or a couple weeks before my first audition because I was like, ‘I should check this out!' It holds up."

Maintaining that he loves Harrison Ford, who played the original Solo, Teller added, "I think that’s a great character. I love his brand, I mean so many guys would’ve played that part just so wrong and he has humor at the right times... Harrison Ford is a very big actor, when you see the facial expressions and the things he makes he goes big. He’s just always the coolest guy in the room and he’s got all of those great qualities."

Now, while some actors may be forgiven for not viewing or reading a film's original source material before officially being up for a role, this is Star Wars we're talking about, and these fans do not play. Since the release of the podcast on Thursday, fans have expressed their (in some cases exaggerated) outrage across social media.

"MILES TELLER IS NOT DESERVING OF HAN SOLO," one fan cried out on Twitter, another dramatically threatening, "if miles teller becomes the new han solo I'm gonna burn myself at the stake."

The sentiment was echoed if not sensationalized on Facebook, with many fans circulating this scathing message: "Legit, I don't hate Miles Teller but if you want to do popcorn movies, at least check the damn sources. Read a Fantastic Four comic, watch Star Wars. How dare you come in to do such a beloved role with absolutely no reverence for it at all." Ouch.

Luckily for fans who do not want Teller to play the role of Solo, rumor has it that the Fantastic Four actor is now out of the running, and that the potential candidates have been narrowed down to Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!), and Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction).

Hopefully these three boys can avoid the wrath of the Star Wars fandom... for now.
