‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ Trailer: Tom Cruise Faces Off Against the Anti-IMF
The new Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation trailer doesn’t offer up anything drastically different from the usual Mission: Impossible movie — Tom Cruise, shadowy government agents, an elegantly dressed woman kicking ass, insane stunts, an improbable task — but it does all those things (and does them all so well), it’s hard to not get excited for the upcoming fifth installment.
As you saw in the first trailer, the showstopper of Rogue Nation will be the scene where Cruise is dangling off the side of a cargo plane as it takes off on a runway. Yes, that’s really Tom Cruise and yes, he really hung off the side of an airplane as it took off. It’s a brilliantly designed and executed stunt and they wisely save that beat for the end so as to not overshadow what else is going on in this trailer.
What’s particularly enjoyable about this new footage is how it’s cut to Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love”. We’ve written at length about how studios have lately leaned on depressing cover versions of classic hits for their movie trailers. It’s nice to see a movie, especially a Mission: Impossible movie, embrace a rock song instead of setting their summer action movie to a funeral dirge. This is a Mission: Impossible movie, let’s have some fun!
If you need to know a little bit more about this upcoming installment, Paramount is protecting some of the secrets and twists of the film, but we do know this much:
Ethan Hunt and team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate – an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying the IMF.
Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation opens in theaters on July 31.
