It's tough to talk about the first 'Mortdecai' trailer without talking about its star. The past few years have been tough on Johnny Depp, who has gone from being the biggest box office star on the planet to the star of a few major disasters. The filmmakers behind this goofy new comedy probably didn't expect to have every person on the planet wondering "Is this going to be the movie that brings Depp back to the top?", but that's exactly what's going to happen.

Although the trailer doesn't sell any of the plot of 'Mortdecai,' it does sell Johnny Depp's newest weird character: a snobby art dealer who appears debonair but is actually a bit of a bumbling oaf. Depp doesn't wear any silly hats this time around, but he does have a silly mustache and a wacky accent, so everything balances out in the end. His off-the-wall weirdness is balanced out by co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor, who probably exist just to look at him like he's crazy whenever he does something stupid.

And oh, yeah: this movie looks weird. And maaaybe in a good way. Maybe. There's a definite '60s vibe to the comedy here, as if director David Koepp and his cast are trying to recreate the specific comedy stylings of Blake Edwards and Peter Sellers. Considering that the actual 'Pink Panther' remake abandoned that tone altogether, it's interesting to watch a completely different set of actors, writers and moviemakers attempt to capture that long-lost tone.

We'll reserve additional judgment until we see more. Here's the official synopsis:

Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

'Mortdecai' will arrive in theaters on February 6, 2015.
