Don’t Forget To Stop At OKC’s New Exhibit On Your Next Visit
The next trip you take up to the Oklahoma City Zoo should definitely include a stop at this one-of-a-kind display. The Patricia & Byron J. Gambulos ZooZeum now has a new exhibit showcasing local photographers and the beauty that is the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
In 2024, several different volunteer photographers captured some incredible photos at the zoo and their work did not go unnoticed. The exhibit will include 37 of the best original wildlife photos taken at the Zoo and an artistic view of the Zoo made out of miniature bricks called OKC Zoo Bricktopia.
The photos displayed were put into four categories:
- Zoo Animal Family—featuring more than one member of a species
- Wild for Wildlife—highlighting any and all wildlife
- Enrichment—capturing a moment of wildlife reacting to enrichment provided by Zoo caretakers
- Seasonal—reflecting the change of seasons within the Zoo
Bricktopia was built by hand by OKC Zoo team member and avid brick builder, Daniel Custar. He incorporated hundreds of brick pieces and figurines as well as interactive lights, while scattering numerous "photographer" figurines throughout the display. Those who visit are encouraged to count how many they can spot.
Both pieces of art will be available after Saturday, Jan. 25 at the OKC Zoo Photo Crew: Best of 2024 exhibit and is free to view with a general admission park ticket. From now until February 5, 2025, visitors can come to the OKC Zoo anytime between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily with the last entry at 4 p.m. on weekdays except Tuesdays and Wednesdays, as well as the weekends.
