No. 17 Maryland Tops Oklahoma State 73-64

Jake Layman had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the No. 17 Maryland Terrapins over the Oklahoma State Cowboys 73-64 on Sunday to improve to 11-1.
The Terrapins handed the Cowboys their fifth loss in 198 nonconference home games dating to 1987. Maryland, 17-15 last season, connected on just five of its first 20 shots, but was 7 of 8 down the stretch in the opening half to take a 32-27 lead. The Terps opened the second half with a 15-3 run to build a 17-point lead. Layman was 3 of 5 from 3-point range and the Terrapins were 10 of 25 overall from long range. Melo Trimble had 16 points, Jared Nickens added 11, and Richaud Pack had 10 rebounds.
Le'Bryan Nash led Oklahoma State (9-2) with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Anthony Hickey had 16 points and Phil Forte III added 13. Oklahoma State cut it to 10 with 9 minutes left, but Layman hit a 3-pointer and finished a fast break with a layup to make it 56-41 with 7:50 remaining. The Cowboys cut it to nine on Hickey's 3-pointer, but Layman came up big again, this time with a driving, dunk for a 62-51 advantage with 4:42 to play. Hickey's 3-pointer made it 67-61 and sealed the victory with 53 seconds left.

The Cowboys (9-2) will take 9 days off for the holiday and return to the court Tuesday night, heading north Kansas City to take on the Missouri Tigers (5-6). The Cowboys hope to rebound from losing two of their last three games after starting 8-0, while Missouri hopes to get back to .500 on the season after back-to-back losses to Xavier and Illinois.
