OK State Fair Covid Precautions Are Up To You
Just about the time officials determined the Oklahoma State Fair in Oklahoma City would be taking place, followed by the list of new fair foods set to hit the midway in 2021, the first question out of just about everyones mouth has been "Is there going to be Covid restrictions?" It's a fair question to ask since Oklahoma cases of the global virus are currently sitting atop new record numbers. So what do they have in store for fairgoers?
The long and short answer to this loaded question is pretty simple. Your safety from the rona is your responsibility at this years Oklahoma State Fair.
If you choose to attend the fair while it's happening, whether to enjoy the food, games, crafts, rides and whatever else a fair offers... (never been to one)... if you're nervous about the Delta strain of Covid-19, you can either opt to wear your own mask and social distance, or opt out of going altogether. Looking around the state, especially in the crowded restaurants here in Lawton, odds are not very many people will be masking up, so don't be surprised.
While it's not the ideal decision some would have made in this situation, the fair isn't a "must go" type event for anyone. Nobody is being forced to be there, so there's really no need to mandate a mask to be worn. Besides, have you forgotten what masks consisted of when the mandates were in place? Sure, the were masks in the academic sense of the word, but science has shown, unless it's an N95 or better mask, it's probably not doing any good. In fact, it's probably doing more bad offering that false sense of security. None of the science about mask effectiveness is relevant anyway without the addition of social distancing, something that most likely won't be realistic in a fair setting anyway.
If you've opted for a vaccine, feel free and have a little confidence to enjoy the fair. Sure, you might catch the rona, but studies have shown that the vaccinated have such an easier time with it.
If you haven't opted for vaccination, also feel free to have a little fun at the fair not catching the so-called "just a bad cold." Curiously, some people just don't catch it. Your mileage may vary.
