Look out - baby fever in Oklahoma!

The Oklahoma City Zoo is celebrating another birth this year. On Monday, September 8, an infant Francois langur monkey was born at the OKC Zoo. This particular birth is a special one for the endangered species since not many are left in the wild.

Although this baby is only a week old, he is already out with the family and visitors can see him with the rest of his family at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Gardens’ Sanctuary Asia habitat.

Births at OKC Zoo celebrating conservation efforts for species around the world.

Each birth the OKC Zoois another successful knotch in the conservation effort's belt, so to speak. Several of the species at the OKC Zoo are endangered or have incredibly low populations in the wild, like the Francois langur monkeys.

The Zoo's curator of Primates, Shannon Charles-Ray, said that they " are thrilled to welcome a new member to our Francois langur family! As an endangered species, this birth is incredibly special to the Zoo and our primate team."

The mature Francois langurs’ wild population is between 2,000 and 2,100, down nearly 50 percent over the last 37 years.

You can see nearly all of the baby animals at the Oklahoma City Zoo during their regular hours. Find out more and purchase tickets here.

Unique Things to Do in Oklahoma City

There is no shortage of things to do in OKC. While there are a handful of things everyone knows about--OKC Zoo, Myriad Gardens, Bricktown, etc-- there are even more lesser-known places to experience one-of-a-kind Oklahomaness. Some things cost a little money, others are completely free, but it's all fun for the whole family.
