Live in Oklahoma? Don’t Answer Calls From These Area Codes
Criminals just don't seem to know how to quit. Every time the public becomes aware of a scam, things evolve and we're back at square one.
The newest scam is being called the "One Ring" scam, this is how it works.
You get a call, it may only ring for a moment (one ring), and then nothing. The scammers are counting on people to call the number back, at which point you could be charged upwards of $3-$7 per minute as the call gets forwarded to a 1-900 number... Remember those?
You don't even talk to anyone in most cases, they just answer your call and run the meter. The longer you stay on, the more they bill your phone carrier.
How does anyone fall for that?
I know, I know. I get a couple of obvious scammer calls each day too. Standard practice is if I don't know the number, I don't answer it. But you'd be amazed how many people, mainly those in the older generations fall for this scam. Enough to warrant public warnings about it.
Here's a quick list of all of the area codes associated with the One Ring scam, domestic and international.

Stay vigilant my friend. While it's probably best not to answer numbers you don't recognize, that's not always possible, especially when you're expecting a call. Use your best judgment. Best of luck.
