Open Streets Is Back in Lawton, Oklahoma!

For those that are actually ready to DO stuff outside in Oklahoma - there's a light at the end of this tunnel and its getting closer every day. The very first day of fall is just a few weeks away and it also happens to be near the same time as one of the biggest events in Lawton.

Right now, it might be miserable to imagine getting active outside in the mid day heat. But on Saturday, September 20, things will be cooler and a lot more fun on C Avenue for the annual Open Streets event.

If you were there for the spring version of this event, you had just a taste of what Lawton's local businesses can do to get people outside. But this free fall festival this year is expected to be even more fun, since they're "bouncing into fall" for this year's theme.

For those who've never heard of Open Streets, it's an event that is pretty much exactly how it sounds.

During the event, the city blocks off C Avenue in Lawton. Then, local businesses, organizations and groups come together to set up activity areas for all ages. The goal is truly just to get people playing in the streets.

Earlier this spring, the road was packed with dancers, cornhole tournaments, soap bubbles, even some martial arts demonstrations. Personally, I hope I actually get to try the Pickleball set up to see what all the craze has been about the sport.

Currently, the Open Streets Committee is asking for vendors and volunteers to make this event happen.

This fall event is especially exciting because of the talks they've had with Lawton Inflatables to hopefully bring a special block of bounce houses.
