Oklahoma & Oklahoma State Top College Softball Rankings at #1 and #2
We are two and a half months from the NCAA softball Women's College World Series in OKC, but Oklahoma's two D1 teams are already stacked at #1 and #2 in the rankings.
Now, OU is no stranger to the softball College World Series. Coach Patty Gasso has lead the Sooners to the championship game in seven of the last ten seasons, winning the national title five times in the last decade. 2023 could be the year OU three-peats it.
On the other hand, OSU hasn't faired so well in softball. In forty years of NCAA softball, OSU hasn't yet been to "the dance." That doesn't mean they aren't on track to do so in 2023, but it'll be an uphill battle considering their underdog odds.
While OU is the overall and undisputed #1 ranked team in the country, OSU's place at #2 faulters a bit depending on where you look. Just like in college football, the rankings of different outlets routinely don't match up pick for pick.
Some softball outlets, including the coaches poll, have OSU solidly picked at #2 overall... NFCA, ESPN, & D1Softball...
Others waiver on where OSU should be placed. SoftballAmerica ranks them at #3 while the NCAA Softball RPI places them even lower at #4... but since both of those charts can't agree on where Stanford and Tennessee exist, it's hard to trust either of them.
Could we see OU and OSU duke it out in the Women's College World Series? Yes... In fact, we came really close to seeing just that last year. Texas was able to best OSU twice last year to berth into the national championship game, of which they lost to OU.
As the softball World Series happens in OKC every year, you might keep an eye on it.
