Kid Zone Reopens, More Parks Soon To Be Updated in Lawton
Over the weekend, the city of Lawton hosted its ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Kid Zone at Greer Park. Now, everyone in Lawton and the surrounding communities can come and play at the updated, safer-than-ever, newly renovated park.
Shortly before the grand opening, the City of Lawton confirmed that Kid Zone was not the only park in Lawton that would be updated. Although the other parks may not be renovated to the same extent, they will still receive some kind of improvement - hopefully before the end of the year.
Will the next update be near you? Find out below.
Greer Park opens the new Kid Zone, and the community is in love.
The ribbon-cutting and grand opening were a huge success. Many of Lawton's families have already had some positive things to say about the updates. One Lawtononian said on the City of Lawton's Facebook Page: "Took five grandkids today. They all had a blast!"
Although some people already miss the magical, castle-like look of the previous park, the city did keep some of the original staple pieces. The handprints on the columns are still there at the entrance of the park.
The renovations at the new Kid Zone are some of the most extreme we'll see on the list of updates that the city has in store for other parks in Lawton.
What other parks are going to be updated?
According to the Parks and Rec Deputy Director, Kevin Ingram, more parks across Lawton are also getting a much-needed makeover. "What you deserve to see in the city, not only in this park (Kid Zone), but at least one park per ward is starting to get revitalized and redone," he said in a Facebook live video.
So far, projects have already been started or nearly finished for:
Lee West Park - 794-900 SW 67th St., Lawton, Oklahoma
Mocine Park - 806 SW Roosevelt Ave. Lawton, Oklahoma
Gooch Acres Park - 3510 NW Rogers Lane, Lawton, Oklahoma
More parks are yet to be redone. Keep up with the City of Lawton's social media for more updates on construction.
