R. Kelly Secretly Recorded Asking for an Apology From Woman Who Accused Him of Giving Her an STD
R. Kelly is in hot water once again after a woman who accused him of giving her a sexually transmitted disease, secretly recorded the singer asking for an apology.
In a video posted by TMZ on Saturday (May 5), the woman, who is suing Kelly under the name Jane Doe, said she was trying to get him to confess to alleged transgressions he had with her when she was 19 years old. The woman alleges that Kelly gave her drugs and alcohol before giving her an STD.
"I just lectured you all the time to teach you certain things and try to make you a better person," he can be heard saying. Later in the conversation, the singer admits he was hoping for an apology. "I was looking for you to be humble and say, 'I messed up, I was thinking wrong, I was thinking crazy,'" he said. "I don't blame you for acting like that, this is who you are."
Kelly also mentioned the woman's parents not being fond of him, saying, "Your father and mother don't like me... they now that that's real."
Later during the call, the singer becomes defensive and says he doesn't want to talk about the situation on the phone anymore. "I'm not talking about this no more," he said. "When you wanna talk to me, come and talk to me. I don't talk on the phone about... I'm not getting into that."
Last month, the women of color of the Time's Up movement joined the #MuteRKelly campaign and published a letter calling for RCA Records, Ticketmaster, Spotify and Apple Music to put an end to the singer.
According to the group, Kelly "married a girl under 18 years of age; was sued by at least four women for sexual misconduct, statutory rape, aggravated assault, unlawful restraint and furnishing illegal drugs to a minor; was indicted on 21 counts of child pornography and has faced allegations of sexual abuse and imprisonment of women under threats of violence and familial harm."
