Medicine Park, Oklahoma’s Party with the Past You’ll Love
Oklahoma is celebrating our roots with one of the biggest music festivals coming this Memorial Day weekend.
For the 7th year in a row, Medicine Park brings together the best folk, americana, blues and red dirt performers to celebrate "roots music". This year's design and artwork was "inspired by the old 'wanted' posters," says designer Anthony Fontaine. "It's a nod to Medicine Park's rich history with outlaws like Bonnie and Clyde, Jesse James, Al Capone, Pretty Boy Floyd and many more."
This year's line up includes truly authentic and soulful performances from many artists for the three-day festival. Headlining Saturday, May 25, starting at 9:00p.m., is Louisiana's Curly Taylor and Zydeco Trouble. Enjoy a blend of southern blues and midwestern folk. Want a taste? Check out their set from the Tucson Folk Festival.
Things kick off Friday, May 24 with the Ozark Cobras starting things at 7:00p.m. and Rachel Ammons taking over at 9:00p.m.
Saturday, May 25, has a full day's line-up with Billy Irwin & the Gambits starting the music in Hitchin Post Park at 3:00p.m. Brad Fielder Junk Band starts at 5:00p.m., followed by Katsuk at 7:00p.m., with Curley Taylor wrapping things up for the night at 9p.m.
The music doesn't stop on Sunday, May 26, including The Steppers at 3p.m., Garage Mahalix at 5:00p.m., Lazy Rooster Rhythm Co. at 7p.m. and everything comes to a close with a big finish from the Johnny Mullenax Band.
Although the artists listed before will be performing at Hitchin' Post Park, the entire town of Medicine Park comes alive during music festivals and typically has live music at almost all of their other venues lining mainstreet.
What festival doesn't have food trucks and vendors? You'll find unique vendors and some of the BEST food yet like RedBone Indian Tacos.
You'll also have plenty of options for staying cool. Maybe take a swim in Bath Lake (weather permitting) and rent a float from Santa's shop, or enjoy the AC and frozen adult beverages right next door at Nice Ice Baby.
The possibilities are endless, as Medicine Park has grown immensely with different businesses. Get back to your roots and maybe even try something new in Medicine Park Memorial Day weekend.
