After all of the crazy weather models, we're finally seeing snow all around Oklahoma. Some areas are seeing more than they initially expected while others are left wishing for more. We've included some photos from Elgin, Oklahoma and what the roads and conditions looked like earlier this morning.

Earlier Predictions For Oklahoma's Snowfall

The weather models predicting which areas of Oklahoma would actually get snow seemed to be changing often with this specific storm. The National Weather Service in Norman released a variety of models yesterday, unsure exactly of how things were going to pan out. But after waking up this morning, many predictions came true.

According to an earlier report from the National Weather Service, most cities in Oklahoma were not supposed to see more than 3 inches of snow. On their list, they estimated:

  • Altus, OK: Less than 2 inches
  • Lawton, OK: Less than 3 inches
  • Oklahoma City, OK: 1 to 3 inches
  • Tulsa, OK: 1 to 3 inches

Now, however, many areas will actually see anywhere between three to five inches, according to updates on the Weatherlink LLC Public Facebook group.

The good news about this snowfall is that it's not coming in from 40mph winds, and it isn't necessarily sticking. But it's important to remember why Oklahoma roads are significantly dangerous to drive on if you aren't experienced. In Oklahoma, above freezing temperatures keep moisture on the road - which ends up freezing when the temperatures drop at night.

It's important to stay off the roads if possible, but you don't have to stay inside! Enjoy the snow Oklahoma - it doesn't come often. Here's how Elgin looked earlier this morning around 10 a.m.
