Skip the Grocery Store: Buy Local in Southwest Oklahoma
There's nothing quite like local - locally grown foods, passion projects, and creative ways to support someone you actually know. People are aiming for fresher and healthier options for their food, and there's a way to find it and support someone near you.
Rather than spending the gas to travel to town, struggle the sea of strangers, and suffer a headache at the end of your grocery shopping trip, you can save yourself money and trouble by looking closer to home.
Here are some of southwest Oklahoma's local farmstands and local options for finding fresh produce and homegrown foods.
Local farmstands that sit roadside soon to restock and offer fresh produce.
We asked several locals where to find their roadside farmstands. One that is very hard to miss sits alongside the highway heading towards Cyril, Oklahoma from Fletcher, Oklahoma.
For those not familiar, Fletcher is about 10 minutes from Elgin, and 45 minutes from Lawton.
This stand is self-serve and the owners, S & S Self Service Farmstand, usually keep it stocked with homemade jams, farm fresh eggs, "cowboy candy," and many other options.

There are quite a few hidden farmstands near Fletcher and Sterling, including just beside Snider Family Exotics. The owner of that farmstand said that she will be reopening hers in March.
But farmstands aren't the only places to find fresh produce.
More options to buy and support local are on the way.
Of course, you can always wait for your local farmers market to host their events on the weekends, or once a month. You can also visit the local Food Bank for fresh produce, as well. In fact, Lawton Food Bank is having several events coming up to support the southwest Oklahoma community, including a produce pop up.
But if you want to try a new place, then it's worth checking out places like Langhorst Natural Farms in Chickasha, Oklahoma. They raise and sell quality eggs, meat, and baked goods.
Another local option that will be opening soon is the 4J Meats Harvest Store. They announced last year that they were expanding to the east side of Lawton and are hoping to open this year.
They hope to provide the community with "100% locally born and raised meats, along with fresh produce, honey, baked goods, and so, so much more."
We are still looking for more farmstands and options for local produce to share with the rest of southwest Oklahoma. Tell us your favorite stop on our app.
