Aaron Paul Encourages ‘The Dark Tower’ Casting Rumors
A few years ago, former Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul tweeted that playing Eddie Dean in an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower was a “huge” dream of his. It looks like he might get his wish, as the actor is rumored for the role of Eddie in Nikolaj Arcel’s film based on the epic fantasy book series. Although the casting remains a rumor (for now) Paul’s tweets are really getting our hopes up.
Complex reported on the casting earlier today, echoing Blastr’s report from yesterday, but nothing had been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. — and still hasn’t. Then Paul took to twitter this evening, seemingly confirming the news himself:
Fans of the actor may recall this tweet from a few years back:
But not so fast —
Paul wants to play the role of Eddie Dean, one of two modern characters from our reality who join gunslinger Roland Deschain on his epic quest to find the eponymous Dark Tower. Idris Elba is set to play Roland, with Matthew McConaughey cast as the villainous Man in Black. Arcel will direct the film based on an Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner screenplay he revised with Anders Thomas Jensen. Instead of tackling the books chronologically, Arcel’s film will begin somewhere in the middle before taking viewers back to the beginning.
According to those who have read the screenplay, Eddie does not appear in the first film, though there are plans to introduce him in the sequel.
Mad Max: Fury Road star Abbey Lee also stars in The Dark Tower, which is set to hit theaters on February 17, 2017.
