Tina Fey Calls Out White, College-Educated Women Who Voted for Trump: ‘You Can’t Look Away’
Fey weighed in on how a certain subset of voters voted:
A lot of this election was turned by kinda white, college-educated women who would now maybe like to forget about this election and go back to watching HGTV and I would want to urge them to, like, you can't look away! Because it doesn't affect you this minute but it's going to affect you eventually...I personally will make my own pledge as a college-educated white woman to not look away, to not pretend that things that are happening now won't eventually affect me if we don't put a stop to it.
It certainly hasn't ben uncommon for celebrities to publicly criticize President Donald Trump, but this instance is perhaps a bit different, in that Fey instead chose to direct her comments at Trump's voters -- those like herself, in particular.
While a clear majority of white, college-educated women did not vote for Trump, 44 percent still did, which was higher than many experts had guessed before the election. It may have even been enough to provide the sliver of difference in states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan, which gave Trump a win in the Electoral College despite losing the overall popular vote by nearly 3 million.
