From shelters to foster and adoption groups, there are many different options when you are looking to add a new four-legged member to your family. Every week Townsquare's Pet Patrol, brought to you by Midtown Animal Hospital, highlights adoptable pets from across the Southwest Oklahoma and North Texas areas, hoping to find homes for shelter pets from throughout the region.

This week we are highlighting animals from 12 shelters, and hope to add more as momentum builds for this project. We will also be featuring information on upcoming events at our local shelters, as well as bringing you information on upcoming fund raising activities for these organization.

The Pet Patrol is brought to you by Midtown Animal Hospital. We would also like to thank Just 4 K9s and Kitty 2, your home for grooming supplies, as well as all of your pets' needs, from food to beds to toys. Please remember to spay and neuter, and of course to adopt, not shop!

Texas Flood Assistance

Continued assistance is needed in the Houston area as flood waters have subsided, but now the real work begins. There are thousands of animals left homeless and without families. Some are being relocated, other are being cared for in the area. But now, with Hurricane Irma approaching the east coast, more help is needed as there will be more animals that need help.

There are several animal groups that are in the area attempting to help animals displaced by the storms. We encourage everyone to donate time, supplies or money to these efforts. Among those currently actively working with area authorities are the ASPCA, whose Disaster Response Team is in the area and assisting those in need. Also attempting to help with feet on the ground is Miranda Lambert's MuttNation Foundation, a small group of volunteers who have rescued hundreds of dogs and cats in just a few days.

Our thoughts, hearts and prayers go out to all those in the Houston and South Florida areas, and we urge you to help these organizations any way you can.

Meet Skylar, a wonderful little 6 month old lab mix who came to us as a country stray, but it is apparent that she is much more than that, and we are on a mission to find her a wonderful forever home. Skylar is great with children, amazing with other dogs and is even great with cats. She seems to know what she's doing when it comes to walking on a leash and would make a great walking partner for her new family.

Skylar is just a puppy though and needs a few lessons in house training so she can be an inside girl where she is closest to her family. Skylar loves human companions and promises to work hard to prove she is deserving of being an inside pup.

For more information about Skylar, or to arrange a meet and greet with this wonderful guy, please call the Stephens County Humane Society at 580-252-7387!

Hi! My name is Domino, I am 2 to 3 years old, and while I may have a little extra baggage around my hips, if you gave birth to 6 little ones, then you'd have some too. I am fixed now and will slim back down. I am up-to-date on my shots, so if you don't mind a girl with curves then stop down and see me at Lawton Animal Welfare!

Do you have a furever home I can go into? Will you 'Opt to Adopt'? Come down to Lawton Animal Welfare, 2104 SW 6th Street, and ask for me by name, remember ASK FOR DOMINO! 580 581-3218

    Rainbow Bridge Can Wait - 580 919-0439

This handsome fellow is Scooter. He is house and kernel trained although he in not a fan of his kennel. He would rather snuggle under the covers with his human. Scooter loves to go on long walks and walks very well on leash. He gets along with other dogs and cats but prefers adults and older children over smaller, younger peeps.

Scooter has some issues with food guarding but is improving. He is learning to eat in the same room with his foster siblings. He would do best on a feeding schedule to minimize food guarding.

Scooter comes with agar appropriate, up to date shots. He is heart worm negative and micro chipped, on monthly heart preventative, flea and tick prevention and the rescue will pay for activation of micro chip and up to one year of monitoring. Scooter is also neutered. If you are interested in him please call Rainbow Bridge Can Wait at 580-654-2513 or message up on Face Book.

Peaches is a young 2 year old female Chihuahua.  She is very friendly, playful, and good with other dogs, even cats.  She was in our local animal shelter until we brought her into our program her.  She is quiet yet enjoys playing with another dog in the foster home that will occasionally run and play with her.  She enjoys playing with toys of any size, shape or ability to squeak.

Peaches has been spayed and she is current on all her vaccinations.  She tested negative for heart worms and 3 tick born diseases. She is ready to go to her new home, and should make a great companion and pet.

Willbarger Humane Society (Vernon, TX) - 940 552-5373

Harrison is our dog of the week this week. He is a Basset Hound and Rottweiler mix and is close to a year in age. Harrison and his brother were brought in together after being hit by a car (don't worry neither was injured). His brother went to training with Paws For Greatness and was adopted right away, but since Harrison was a bit bigger he is still here waiting for his forever family. He is a very happy dog and is still very active due to his young age.

Come visit Harrison and see if he could make your family complete. We are located at 2801 Sullivan St in Vernon Tx. You can reach us by phone at 940-552-5373 or by email at whs76384@gmail.com. To put an application on any of our animals please visit www.wilbargerhumanesocietyvernontx.org
