Hallelujah, there's a light at the end of the tunnel! At least for a few of the construction projects happening in southwest Oklahoma. Thanks to a few helpful community members, we've been able to compile a few updates on progress for citizens in the region.

Trail road construction making major headway, should be done in a few weeks.

If you travel between Lawton and Sterling, Elgin or Fletcher, you more than likely have ran into the Trail road construction at some point. A local community member shared a sped up view of the construction progress on the road via Facebook and, according to the videographer, they look to be "approximately 50% complete" with the work.

Community member Jeremiah Squire shared a sped-up video of what looks like a drive down Trail Road in the current state they've had it on a private Facebook page. The video starts at the point of the detour currently set up on Trail road and continues to the end of the construction.

In the video, you can see the new asphalt that's been paved and parts of the road that have been straightened. According to Squire, "it's not too drastically different, I thought it was going to be straight but it's just slightly less curvy." Watching the video, you can see where the old road used to be, beside the newly paved straightened road.

Although there's no confirmed exact finish date for Trail road construction, the end is in sight.

We've reached out to Comanche County District One for a confirmation on where they're at on the progress for the construction, but have not received word yet. As soon as we're given an update and a possible date of completion, we'll update this post promptly. Although, we did spot a Facebook post from the Mayor of Elgin, JJ Francais, that Trail road would reopen in 4-5 weeks from April 3, 2025.

Updates from Elgin Mayor on Highway 277 three lane and sidewalks construction.

Speaking of Elgin, another major project in southwest Oklahoma that should be completed sooner than expected is the three lane highway and sidewalks being added to the town. According to the latest update from Mayor Francais, construction is currently ahead of schedule and they should be completed before the deadline in August 2025.

The Mayor has also discussed more efficient ways to speed up the construction progress with the contractors, but it seems as though they're already doing everything they possibly can to work on the roads as quickly as possible.

Lawton's Worst Roads As Voted By You

Roads have always been a hot topic in Lawton. The local government always promises to fix them when elections are at stake, but the improvements never come. It's more of the same crumbling roads and bandaid patches due to what the city describes as "too little funding," even though we continually vote for bonds to satisfy these issues.

Here are the worst commonly used roads in Lawton as voted by you.
