Starting tomorrow (01-02-21) at 12:00am the new TSA (Transportation Security Administration) will require all persons using public transportation to wear a face mask. This will include: aircraft, bus, train, boat as well as any other type of public transportation. You'll have to wear a mask both in the terminal and while being a passenger. The mandatory face mask mandate will be in effect from 02-02-21 until 05-11-21 and may be extended depending on the COVID-19 pandemic.

So what does this mean for you? If you're planing on using any type of public transportation you'll definitely need a face mask. In order to pass TSA check points a face mask must be worn. An official spokesperson for the TSA has stated that if you don't have a face mask you won't be permitted to board and that you could also face civil penalties for not wearing one. The mask directive covers not only airports, but any public transportation that's overseen by the TSA.

As far as the fines or penalties that part isn't 100% clear. In the statement it reads "Passengers who refuse to wear a mask will not be permitted to enter the secure area of the airport, which includes the terminal and gate area. Depending on the circumstance, those who refuse to wear a mask may be subject to a civil penalty for attempting to circumvent screening requirements, interfering with screening personnel, or a combination of those offenses." Not too sure what those "civil penalties" will add up to but it's probably not worth finding out.

This is in response to President Biden's executive order for Promoting COVID-19 Safety in Domestic and International Travel. So, if you haven't done so already get a face mask or two and keep them handy, especially if you plan on doing any travel anytime soon.
