Experience Scenic Trail Rides in Tulsa, OK Starting This Memorial Day Weekend
Memorial Day weekend is usually the kickstart of several events that continue throughout the summer. Starting Friday, May 23, the Tulsa Trails West agri-venue in Tulsa, Oklahoma will be offering early morning trail rides every Friday morning, weather permitting. The first ride will start at 8:00 a.m. and the second ride at 10:30 a.m.
The trail riding experience is meant for nearly all ages and any experience riders. The ride will include a mandatory training lesson before the start of the one hour trail ride. Children ten years old and older can come along, as well, but must ride their own horse. For more information about the rides, click here.
This year, the team is hoping to add more than just early morning rides to the mix in Tulsa so families of up to ten can make plans to come out and ride through country Tulsa.
Who knew there were views in Tulsa, Oklahoma?
If you ask most of the previous clients who've visited the Trails, they've all previously mentioned something about the views, and not about the city of Tulsa, either. The Red Fork Mountain and East Valley Ride trail ride takes visitors through a part of the property that makes folks forget that they're just outside of one of the largest cities in the state.
Greg Guerrero, Tulsa Trails West's communications manager, told us that the trails are worth riding through, even for the seasoned cowboys and cowgirls. "While this is not a ride that is challenging for an intermediate or experienced rider, it is a diverse and beautiful ride, and for that reason enjoyable at all skill levels," he said. He explained that the trail winds through high areas, ponds, switchbacks and even woods.
No matter the rider, everyone starts from ground zero.
Despite the fact that the experience will take riders through different types of terrain, Guerrero expressed that any rider can trust the horses they have on the trail. "Our horses know what to do, but our riders need to be clear in the way that they signal the horse on what to do."
That's why riders take a mandatory beginning lesson before they start for the trail. Riders learn how to properly mount their horse, steer their horse in both directions and how to cue their horse to stop and go. By the end of the lesson, each rider should be able to do figure eight patterns in the corral at a walk.
Unlike most traditional trail riding places, Guerrero says that the terrain makes the Red Fork Mountain and East Valley Ride trail ride the complete opposite of a flat pasture ride. While navigating the area, riders need to know how to communicate with their horses and actually ride their horse, not just sit back and let the horse walk off.
Future plans for the Tulsa Trails West venue.
As the year goes on, staff at Tulsa Trails West are trying to expand and create another 2d trail that will be known as the "West Valley Ride." They do not have a for sure date set for when the trail will be open, but things are sounding promising that it may be open soon.
They are also hoping to add a few more horses to their herd, so more than ten people can hit the trails at one time. Watch their social media for more updates.
