Animal Registered In The U.K. Somehow Found in Oklahoma
It's safe to say that the cat, Samson, found in Sand Springs, Oklahoma last week has done his fair share of traveling. After scanning his microchip, shelter staff at the Sand Springs Animal Welfare were able to track where he was registered from.
Astoundingly, Samson had somehow made his way to northeast Oklahoma all the way from the United Kingdom. The craziest part - the registered owner said that her cat never left her side. So where is Samson's home?
How Sand Springs Animal Welfare Tracked Oklahoma Stray Back To The U.K.
When Welfare officers picked Samson up, they noticed how well maintained and taken care of he was and believed that he belonged to someone at some point. Thinking that he must've been cared for well, they checked for a microchip and - sure enough - they had a lead to finding Samson's owner.
The number the microchip was registered to led Animal Welfare officers to a dog warden over 4,000 miles away in the U.K., who then put officials in contact with the potential owner. The only problem was that the owner's actual cat was sitting right beside her.
Samson - The Cat Who Could Be In Two Places At Once
Animal Welfare Coordinator, Tracey Arvidson, recalled the conversation with who they thought was Samson's owner, telling KOKI "Yeah, her cat was right there with her, so something happened when they microchipped the cats, they probably got switched, and we haven’t been able to track down the other numbers."
Sand Springs Welfare officers suspect that the numbers may have been mixed up when they were registering or microchipping the animals, making it difficult to trace exactly where Samson belongs. Fortunately, for American adopters, Samson has served his time in quarantine and is now ready to be adopted.
UPDATE: As of Jan. 24, the Sand Springs Animal Shelter has confirmed that Samson has been adopted; there are still plenty of kittens, cats, puppies and dogs that are available to adopt, as well.
