U2 Show Canceled After ‘Security Threat’
A U2 concert scheduled in Sweden today was canceled after a "security risk" was reported. The show at the Globe Arena in Stockholm was all set to take place when the venue was suddenly evacuated.
According to NME, it was originally reported that a bomb threat was the reason for the concert cancellation. But that has since been called a "security threat." The Swedish paper Aftonbladet.se is also reporting that fans outside the arena weren't allowed in due to a "ticket problem," and people already inside were asked to leave as security began searching under seats.
UPDATE: The Swedish site Expressen.se reported that police had received news that a gunman was inside the venue and had planned to to shoot an audience member.
A spokesman came onstage and told the audience that concert had been canceled, and that the show will be rescheduled for Tuesday. The band also tweeted the news.
Tonight's show was to be U2's third in a series of four performances in Stockholm. The band's current tour will keep them in Europe through November.
Presumably, once off the road the band will prep its next album, Songs of Experience, for next year. The band has said many of the songs are all ready to go. The record is a sorta sequel to 2014's Songs of Innocence, whose contents were overshadowed by the controversy that greeted the album after U2 dropped it into iTunes accounts without users' knowledge or permission.
Frontman Bono later apologized for their act of gratitude, calling it an "honest mistake." So don't expect a free copy of Songs of Experience to show up in iTunes when it comes out next year.
