Victoria Justice, John Cena Spoof Trump + Clinton in Gender-Swapping TCA Sketch
While most young adults are still barred from Election Day booths and ballot boxes, the Teen Choice Awards didn't shy away from politics during last night's (July 31) show.
Between showcasing breezy summer fashion and hosting fiery performances, the event looked to the next presidency in a sketch that kicked off with Keegan Michael Key as a very casually dressed President Barack Obama ("Because I'm in the home stretch of my presidency, I'm dressed more on the fleek," he noted).
Key said it was important that teens got some chance to be a part of the democratic process (fewer than 100 days until votes are cast!). And so, he introduced the very first Teen Choice Presidential Election, in which Victoria Justice was a trope-y Donald Trump obsessed with saying "yuge" and John Cena was a Hillary Clinton who was evidently only identifiable by her pantsuit. Also, the joke writers were a collection of hoofed barnyard animals (unconfirmed).
"Nice pantsuit, it's yuge," Justice says above (ugh).
"Nice head badger [?]. It's ridiculous," Cena rebuts (ugh).
Anyway, this was all supposed to encourage teens to unofficially vote between the candidates on Twitter, so viewers could get a sense of which way young America is leaning.
"It's the one chance for your voice to be heard, because it's your future too," Justice says at the clip's end.
Clinton won, which was a victory for rationale and Cena's "yuge" pantsuit.
Watch the moment above and tell us how you think the gag landed.
