Why We Let Some Cars Merge and Others Not So Much

Traveling at any time requires skill and a lot of patience, especially when you get on the interstate. It doesn't matter which one or what time of the day, there is going to be traffic.You might find yourself in a situation of slow moving traffic. It could be from a wreck or road construction, maybe even rush hour traffic, once you get in these situations you will at some point have to merge.

If you expect fellow drivers to be courteous in heavy traffic, don’t drive a 4X4, a super fast sports car or cars like BMW or Mercedes-Benz. Motorists are much more likely to give way to the occupants of unthreatening ‘classic’ cars or eccentric vehicles, like a VW or that beat up car with two different color doors. This is according to a study from the United Kingdom.

Why do we do this? Well it would seem that those driving the VW's, or other cars of the same type, work hard and are just as generous as you are. On the other side of the coin, those behind the wheel of the 'luxury' car, may snub their nose at the thought of having to wait. It shows as they become increasingly impatient and can't merge into traffic.

Take notice as you travel around. See which cars get to merge into traffic and which ones don't. You may find a similar pattern.
