New Beautiful Zebra Foal Just Born In Oklahoma City Zoo

Great news for the Oklahoma City Zoo! A new baby foal is out and ready to meet everyone in the Expedition Africa Exhibit. After recently being born, she is doing well and is adjusting to zoo life.

New Zebra Foal Born November 18 In Oklahoma City Zoo

The Plains Zebra, Nebula, had been expecting for quite some time. Although the foal was born in November, caretakers had actually expected the foal to arrive in December.

According to the press release, the caretakers were truly surprised by the early birth. “We have been planning for this arrival for next month so imagine our surprise when we came in on Tuesday morning to discover that Nebula had given birth overnight. It was a wonderful surprise!” said Bill Smith, OKC Zoo’s curator of ungulates. 

The New Baby Can Have Visitors Now

The caretakers share that the foal, who is not yet named, is doing well and is very active and curious about her surroundings. But, being a baby is exhausting work, so she still rests throughout the day as well.

Now that her and her mother Nebula have bonded and she's off to a great start, the public can now see her and all her striped glory located along Predator Pass in Expedition Africa, weather permitting. The Expedition Africa area is the newest and largest addition to the Zoo, presented by Inasmuch Foundation. 

Where To Find The Foal And Zoo Details

The family of zebras are only just a few of the animals found in the new Expedition; visitors can also check out Honeybadgers, Wildabeest, African Painted Dogs and many more species.

The Oklahoma City Zoo’s daytime hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily with the last entry at 4 p.m. The Zoo will be closed to the public during the daytime on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day as well as Tuesdays and Wednesdays from December 3 through February 5, 2025.
