Altus, Oklahoma is Seeking Competitive Hot Dog Eaters
If you're looking for something to do this 4th of July and have a talent for eating, the Hot Dog Eating Contest at the Altus American Spirit Festival may be just the thing for you!
This is the first year that Altus is throwing together a hot dog showdown, which is appropriate since Bar-S is one of the town's largest employers.
Here are the quick details in case you can't/didn't see the flyer...
- Contestants must be at least 18 years old.
- There is a $20 entry fee to compete.
- They're only allowing 20 competitors.
- Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers.
The rules
Like most competitive eating contests, each contestant will be given a pitcher of water. While sometimes you need a drink to force down a dry bite, most competitive hot dog eaters dip their bread into it so it goes down faster.
Contestants will have ten minutes to eat as many hot dogs as possible. In addition, there will be a ten-minute grace period directly after the contest. This is the settling time in which contestants must keep their food down.
After the ten-minute period is over, they'll proclaim the podium spots for the three winners and pay out the cash prizes.
If you'd like to register and show SWOK the depths of your gullet, you can register here. It's first come, first served, but they are allowing alternates on a standby list.
Good luck.
