Comanche County Commissioner Johnny Owens has announced that Lawton's crew is set to demolish the old American National Bank building on the corner of sixth and D avenue in Lawton to make room for better changes.

The building sits just across Lawton's Comanche County Courthouse, where heavy traffic flow daily makes it difficult to find enough parking space on occasion. Since the building has been out of use for quite some time, the decision was made to demolish it, level and pave the area, add lighting to it and make it a "safer" parking area for the Comanche County Courthouse patrons.

Those who work near or park near the Comanche County Bank Annex building should plan to begin parking in the East parking lot at Central Plaza when construction starts. Crew members will be on location, fencing off the perimeter on Thursday, Feb. 6 and will begin construction the following day, Friday, Feb. 7.

Those who travel through the area are encouraged to find an alternate route for the safety of the workers, drivers and everyone involved. It's safe to say that for a demolition job of this size, they'll be using heavy machinery to tear down the building and also relocate some of the debri, so it won't be the best area to drive around.

Lawton's Worst Roads As Voted By You

Roads have always been a hot topic in Lawton. The local government always promises to fix them when elections are at stake, but the improvements never come. It's more of the same crumbling roads and bandaid patches due to what the city describes as "too little funding," even though we continually vote for bonds to satisfy these issues.

Here are the worst commonly used roads in Lawton as voted by you.
