Animal Adoption Opportunities in Oklahoma Happening Now
If you want a hippopatomus for Christmas, there's a pretty good chance it's going to be a stuffed one. But if you really do want to bring an animal home for the holidays, now is the time to do it. There are a few adoption events and sales that can get your family set up with a pup, cat, or even a pony within the next few weeks.
Adopt A Kitten or Puppy In Lawton This Weekend For Only $20
On Saturday, Dec. 14, the Lawton Farmers Market will be full of ready-to-go adoptable pets from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. In celebration of the holidays, the Lawton Animal Welfare will be hosting $20 adoptions for families bringing home a new pet that day.
Normally, adoption fees are much costlier, but the Animal Welfare wants to see these animals at their new home instead of their kennels this Christmas.
They'll have many of their adoptable dogs, puppies, cats and kittens there for you to meet and learn more about. If you'd like to see photos and bios of the animals they're housing currently, just take a look at their website here.
Ponies Looking For New Pastures In Edmond
You may have a hard time hiding these guys underneath your tree on Christmas morning, but rest assured, you'll find some that just might fit. The Silver Wind Stables is hosting their first ever "I Want A Pony For Christmas" consignment event for owners trying to sell their ponies. This is an invite for the public to bring a trailer and take their pick.
If you've got a horse lover in your family, this sale may have exactly what you've been looking for. Owners will be able to show you their horse and negotiate a price with you directly, rather than bidding in an auction.
There are also options for people to purchase a booth space to set up and sell tack at the same time.
The event starts at 8 a.m. and lasts until noon on Saturday, Dec. 14. at the Silver Wind Stables in Edmond. Consignors are asked not to accept any offers until the end of the event, so make sure you have time alloted to see the horses in action and meet the sellers yourselves.
To see some of the horses listed beforehand, check out the entire catalogue here.
