Every spring, the tiny town of Apache, Oklahoma comes alive during one of the most iconic events of the year. Even guests who are absolutely petrified of snakes look forward to this major event each season because of just how different it is for the southwest Oklahoma community. If you've never been to the Apache Rattlesnake Festival, then you're just in luck for 2025.

Starting Thursday, April 17, the Apache Rattlesnake Festival will be in full gear. For four days, visitors will be able to walk the main streets of Apache and visit vendors, enjoy the carnival and, most importantly, see some rattlesnakes. This year's event marks the 41st anniversary of the historical event.

The Apache Rattlesnake Festival is Apache's largest community event hosted by the Slick Hills Foundation. Money that is raised from the festival is given back to the citizens that live in the town, in the form of financial assistance for emergencies, donations, grant programs or scholarships and more.

They involve the community and folks from the surrounding areas by hosting a variety of events like live music, Native American War Dance competitions and even an entire rodeo.

The Apache Rattlesnake Festival has things for everyone, including those afraid of snakes.

As for the snake enthusiasts, there are an array of opportunities to learn more about these native Oklahoma limbless reptiles. Get an upclose and personal look at the snake pit, or try finding one with the professions on a guided hunt. You'll even have the option to try eating rattlesnake for the first time, as well.

Despite the name, there is plenty to do for folks who may not want to be anywhere near a snake. The carnival that usually comes with the festival each year hosts fan-favorite carnival rides and games to keep the family entertained. Several vendors and food trucks of all kinds line main street (and a few others).

The casino in Apache also offers opportunities to get folks out of the sun (or possible rain) and goodies for festival goers.

There is more than just one rattlesnake festival held in Oklahoma.

The Apache Rattlesnake Festival is just one of a few rattlesnake festivals that happen in Oklahoma. Though some have already happened this season, the Mangum Rattlesnake Festil will come after the Apache Rattlesnake Festival, starting April 25, 2025.

Nothing stops the Apache Rattlesnake Festival from happening.

It's important to remember that this event is a huge deal to the entire town of Apache. It takes a lot for the town to cancel the event; rain doesn't stop the fun from happening. Of course, this is Oklahoma, so tornadoes are usually always a possibility this time of year. But weather is unpredictable (despite our best efforts) and can change quickly.

The best way to know if the festival will still be taking place is to check for updates on their Facebook page.

Rattlesnakes are no joke. They're only one of the several most dangerous animals in the state to look out for. Check out the full list below.
