Revealing: Best Wine in Oklahoma, Based on State Fair Winners

Oklahoma is home to about 50 wineries, according to the American Winery Guide.

Many of them participated in this years' Oklahoma State Fair wine contest to determine who has the best wine in the state. The categories are listed in two main sections: ameteur and professional.

Ameteur wine is broken down into 16 categories, while professional wine has 46. Only one wine is entered by each winery in each section and judges taste blindly, without knowing who's wine they are tasting. They first judge by category, then class.

There are also awards given to the Wine Label winner, Grand Champion winner, and Max Knotts award, given to only the wineries who made their wine from Oklahoma-grown grapes.

Judges for the wine contest judge based on a "merit basis," according to the State Fair guidelines; meaning, if they don't think the wine's quality is deserving of an award, they don't give them one. On the flip side, they are "empowered to grant duplicate awards" for wines that truly are up to par.

This year, the competition judging happened on Wednesday, July 10 and the results have been released. Based on the State Fair results, here are the best wines in Oklahoma.
