Counties In Oklahoma Hit By The Most Tornadoes in 2025
We're still about a month away from the "end" of tornado season in Oklahoma, but weather analysts are tallying up the count that we've seen this year. So far in 2025, Oklahoma has seen 58 tornadoes, with the highest rated tornadoes being EF3. With five weeks left in the season, we're curious how mother nature plans on wrapping things up before summer arrives.
News 9 Stormtracker Tom Pastrano shared a detailed graph outlining how many tornadoes have hit which counties in Oklahoma. So far, Pontotoc county leads the way with six tornadoes, followed by Okmulgee county with five and Ellis and Delaware counties tied with three.
Earlier this year, Oklahoma's tornado season broke records. Based off of the unofficial tally that is considered on the News 9 graph, Pastrano points out that another opportunity to surpass the average is coming close.
"While the current tally remains unofficial, it may increase slightly as several potential tornadoes are still under investigation," he said, "The tornado count for Oklahoma so far this year is nearing the state’s historical average."
The good news, as Pastrano points out, is that Oklahoma is seeing far less tornadoes this year than in 2024, which ended the year with a devastating 152 tornadoes.
Worst tornado damage we've seen in Oklahoma in 2025.
With the current data available, the most powerful tornadoes in Oklahoma this year have been in Carter County, Hughes County, Ellis and Pittsburg Counties.
According to the National Weather Service, the only tornado so far this season to kill someone was the EF1 tornado on April 19 near Spaulding, Oklahoma. The tornado with the most recorded injuries thus far is the Lone Grove EF1 on March 4. The strongest EF3 tornadoes this season have hit Arnett, Oklahoma on May 18 and the following day in Pittsburg County.
Many tornadoes are still under investigation and this data could change as more information is released.
What do weather experts expect for the rest of the tornado season?
Some experts were expecting a very active and wet tornado season this year, with earlier predictions of Oklahoma's tornado count reaching 60. If the weather continues the way it normally does in June, Oklahomans should start to see less tornadoes and hotter days ahead.
Tornadoes can happen at any time of year, despite the "end" of the season nearing.
